Steam Spooks

Have you ever stopped to look at the steam spooks? They live in the brief atmosphere that fleetingly captures them above a farm pond on a cold morning, or beside a quiet stream on a cool and wind-still evening.

Steam spooks mean no harm. They are neither here nor there. They exist merely to be seen for a short-lived moment. A brief witnessing of ethereal nature.

Steam spooks are those wispy whimsical vapour beings that rise out of your bath tub on a cold winter night. Enchanting entities. They float and fade. They dance on the flames of the candles you use to light your evening bath, making the wicks spit and spark. They leap out of the water in pirouetting clouds of vapour and disappear into the misty darkness against the ceiling.

Building Fairy Homes

Be careful when you leave your home,
for underfoot, the fairies roam.
Be mindful of the steps you take,
for fairy folk can bend and break.

Take note of flowers gently laid
upon a rock or a grass blade.
The fairies like to brighten things
with petals, and with butterfly wings.

There are none amongst the little sprites
who have the wisdom, strength or might
to move the rocks and shape the leaves
that form the walls, the floors, the eaves
of even a simply fairy home -
so be careful when you walk or roam.

A fairy's home is often lost
amongst the roots, the leaves and dust.
And sometimes trampling feet do tred
through fairy roofs, on fairy beds.

Be mindful of the sprightly kin
and where you can, present to them
an offering kind and fair and true -
a fairy home that's built by you.
